The best teeth for your smile are and always will be your natural ones. Our dentist, Dr. Brian Han, will do everything possible to help you keep them. However, there may be times when a tooth is so damaged by trauma and decay that it needs to be removed. A tooth extraction may be necessary if you have too many teeth, a condition referred to as overcrowding. You may also need one or more teeth removed in preparation for orthodontic treatment.
If you are in need of a tooth extraction in Fircrest, Washington, Dr. Han will make sure that you are comfortable during your appointment. Typically, after you have been given an anesthetic, Dr. Han will begin by loosening the tooth in the socket with a tool called an elevator. When the tooth is sufficiently loose, it will then be gently removed with a pair of forceps. When the tooth is out, one of our team members will talk with you about your aftercare and how you can prevent a condition known as dry socket. Dr. Han may set a follow-up appointment for you so he can check on the extraction site and discuss your replacement options with you.
If you think that you may need a tooth extraction or if you have another dental issue, please call Fircrest Family Dental at 253-341-4814 and we will be happy to help you plan your visit.
